Hospitals that have taken the spot audit can see how they compare against our benchmarks:
- At least 65% of red blood cell transfusion episodes are single unit
- At least 80% of inpatient red blood cell transfusions have a pre-transfusion Hb 80 g/L or less
If your hospital has met or exceeded benchmarks and maintained these results for four months, you are eligible to become a Using Blood Wisely Hospital.
If your hospital has not met our benchmarks, enrol in a six-month quality improvement initiative to implement practices proven to reduce inappropriate transfusions and qualify for designation upon meeting the benchmarks.
